Would you know how to respond
if your
child stopped breathing?
by Carlette Anderson
As parents we want the very best for our children yet when it comes
to knowing what to do, if our child stopped breathing, we panic and
call 911. Every year we hear about children who have drown in the
family pool and no one knew how to perform CPR. The paramedics race
to the scene to get there as quickly as possible, but unless someone
is right there to start CPR, the chances of the child’s survival
diminish. If CPR is administered within two minutes of the accident,
the child has a good chance of making it with no brain damage, after
four minutes the child can have severe brain damage and after six
minutes the chance of survival is slim. The average response time
for 911 is ten minutes, in most major cities, and in rural areas it
is much longer. Most parents would like to know how to perform CPR
but with their busy schedules it is difficult to find the time to
attend a class. Especially, when the classes are usually eight hours
in length. Sometimes these classes are even broken up into two, four
hour classes, so that means you have to find a babysitter for two
different days.
There is a better way and an easier way to learn CPR. Now you can
get certified in CPR at your time and convenience, in the comfort of
your own home. You have two weeks to complete the course and after
you take the exam you can print out your personalized certification
card. It is so simple even young children can learn CPR online.
Another benefit for taking the course online is that you can give
your user name and password to your family members, babysitters and
friends. They can all learn how to perform CPR free, thanks to you.
The one question that comes up is, “How can you learn CPR without
hands on?” The answer is, “Everything we learn in life is in our
mind.” You become the rescuer in the animation and you learn by
watching the animations. We are all built the same way so you use
your own neck to find where the pulse is located and you use your
own sternum to find out where to compress on the heart. You can also
locate the pulse and correct place to do compressions on your
children, much better than a rubber manikin. Your interaction with
the program helps you to really learn CPR because when a situation
happens that video will pop into your mind and you will know exactly
what to do.
