The Enduring Human SpiritThe Enduring Human Spirit by Charles Tindell
A book review by Nancy J. Reid

"The Enduring Human Spirit" by Charles Tindell is a collection of bittersweet anecdotes that cause you to think about the elderly people you know and what they have learned through their years. It also reminds you that the human spirit in each one of us is what we carry to the end. This is first and foremost, a book about people.

This is a very inspirational work and the care of our elderly is indeed something most of us will have to face at some time or other. At the very least, most of us will be elderly ourselves and this book may help us adjust to that scenario.

Minister Tindell is adept at choosing stories with a message and relating them in such a manner that you are entertained as well as enlightened. As you read each story, there is some part of you that will identify with the character that inspired the story.

At the end of each chapter there are thought provoking questions that should help caretakers of the elderly, institutions for their care and anyone working with the elderly. The questions are an important part of this book, and even for those that are not yet "caring" for an elderly person, they are insightful.

This is a reminder that respect and dignity remain principles we hold dearly at any age.

Charles Tindell is an ordained Lutheran minister who has served as chaplain at the Minnesota Masonic Home since 1992. He has written several books, some award winning.

The Enduring Human Spirit is available through Idyll Arbor, Inc. Phone (888) 97BOOKS to order. Cost is $16.00.
