Riordan Mansion State Historic Park: Built in 1904, for two Riordan families, this Mansion is an impressive reminder of gracious living in a small, territorial logging town. The mansion features the original furnishings, forty rooms, over 13,000 square-feet of living area, and servant's quarters. There is a Visitor Center, picnic tables, a six-acre wooded area, tours, special events and programs. It is an ideal wedding and special event location.  409 W. Riordan Road, Flagstaff. Walnut Canyon National Monument: Features cliff dwellings and pueblos from over 800 years ago, and wildlife, scenic overlooks and trails including the strenuous Island Trail which features 25 cliff dwelling rooms along the trail; and the Rim Trail which goes along the canyon rim and through a ponderosa forest, and features 2 canyon overlooks, plus a pithouse and pueblo set back from the canyon rim. During the summer there are ranger-guided hikes for the Ledge Hike and Ranch Cabin Walk.  Located 10 miles east of downtown Flagstaff via I-40, exit 204. Tel: (928) 526-3367. Wupatki National Monument: Less than 800 years ago, Wupatki Pueblo was the largest pueblo around. Due to heat and lack of water, the builders of Wupatki and nearby pueblos moved on, but their legacy remains. Wupatki National Monument features 5 different pueblos, trails, guided hikes and ranger talks, and a scenic drive to Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument: The youngest volcano on the Colorado Plateau,
Sunset Crater Volcano was born sometime between 1040 and 1100, affecting the lives of local people, the landscape and ecology of the area. Lava flows and cinders still look as fresh and rugged as the day they formed, but among dramatic geologic features, you'll find trees, wildflowers, and signs of wildlife. During the summer, there are interpretive programs including hikes and talks. The Lava Flow Trail is a one-mile loop through an amazing volcanic landscape.
