Anniversary of Hiroshima Bombing and Moment of Silence - August 6 and 9. Observed by both Japanese and Americans, these days commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Early on the morning of August 6, 1945, the B-29 bomber "Enola Gay" flew from North Field on Tinian Island in the Northern Mariana Islands, and dropped the first atomic weapon used in war, on the city of Hiroshima Japan. Then the US dropped a second atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. The Japanese surrendered, thus ending World War 2.

On the anniversary of these two days - 6 & 9 August, it is customary to take a moment of silence for  those who are and shall continue to be remembered by all for good, for bad, for war, and for peace.
