Lake Havasu City - the first planned Community!
Robert McCulloch Sr. had a vision in the early 1960s, when he purchased over 13,000 acres of Mojave Desert and started the country’s first planned community. He added to it when he purchased the London Bridge, that was doomed to sink into the River Thames. Once the bridge was transported and re-assembled on dry land, the earth beneath the bridge was dredged, allowing the Colorado River to flow in by 1971. Not only was this the largest antique ever sold, according to the Guiness Book of World Records--but it was the beginnings of a billion dollar recreational industry and a great year round vacation spot.

Lake Havasu has miles of scenic shoreline and two National Wildlife Refuges to investigate, from coves and inlets to canyons, dunes and rock formations. There are a number of day and night time cruise opportunities just perfect for enjoying the scenery and watching wildlife--ranging from a replica of an old paddle-wheel steam boat to jet boat tours. It is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the United States.

If you want to kick it up a notch--you can jet ski, kayak, canoe, parasail, hang-glide, sail, water ski--in fact Lake Havasu is the Personal Watercraft Capital of the World. The International Jet Sports Boating Association holds their annual World Racing Finals here, there are Regattas all summer long, and there are fishing derbies, too.

Four public golf courses, tennis, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and desert jeep tours are just some of the other activities offered in this perfect family-fun adventure getaway. There is even an indoor Aquatic Center with an Olympic-size wave pool and waterslide, for those who prefer the indoors.

Of course, there is the famous English Village, when you are ready for some specialty shopping as well as the Island Fashion Mall full of boutiques. Plenty of restaurants, including casinos, offer a variety of dining and entertainment experiences.
