Nestled in the San
Joaquin Valley, in Central California Lindsay is a small town that is
home to about 10,000 residents. Sitting at an elevation of 387 feet, the
average high and low temps are 80/46 respectively, and there is a yearly
average rainfall of 11 inches. Lindsay is located just west of the
Sequoia National Park, the Sequoia National Forest and the Giant Sequoia
National Monument.
In 1995, Lindsay was named the All-American City and its location
dictates its primary means of survival featuring lush agricultural
production including oranges and olives. The area also features dairy
farms and cheese factories. Lindsay was also named a California Main
Street City in 1987. The downtown area is home to a series of 20 murals
depicting Lindsay’s history.
One of the town’s popular attractions and activity center’s is the
McDermont Field House & Sports Center. Formerly a packing house, this
center 3 acres in size, and is a unique and dynamic sports, recreation
and event center. Also located downtown, the Sweet Brier Plaza is host
to the community’s Friday Night Market which is held from March to
November.
Lindsay has a Community Theater which presents shows
throughout the year, and the Lindsay Cultural Arts Council has changing
exhibits that feature different artists.
Annual events and festivals include the Annual Soccer Tournament, the
spring Orange Blossom Festival, Cinco de Mayo, Summer Fest & Car Show,
Chili Cook-off in October, the Lindsay Community Christmas Celebration,
and the Los Posada which is a Mexican Christmas Tradition.
