Overview
The Central Region of New Mexico is
home to Albuquerque, largest city in the state. It is also home to the
world's longest aerial tramway. The tram goes from the foothills of
Albuquerque, up to the peaks of the Sandia Mountains, from the peak you
have a spectacular view of the Rio Grande Valley below. There are
dormant volcanoes to the west where you can visit the Petroglyph
National Monument and see rock art left by previous inhabitants of the
area. You can also visit pueblos that are centuries old in the Central
Region, including Cochiti, Isleta, Jémez, Sandia, San Felipe, Santa Ana,
Santo Domingo and Zia.
Hot air ballooning is a major pastime in this area, and Albuquerque is
home to the largest hot air ballooning event in the world, the
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October. River rafting,
biking, birding, boating, fishing, golfing, skiing, camping and hiking
are also popular. For those after an equestrian adventure, there is
Romero's Thunder Inc. Horseback Riding and The Stables at Tamaya.
Attractions include the Albuquerque Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque Museum of
Art & History, the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon
Museum, the Albuquerque Aquarium, Coronado State Monument, أ
Explora! (a hands on museum), the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center,
Harvey House Museum, Intel Museum of the Computer Chip, Jémez
State Monument, Jémez Hot Springs, J & R Vintage Auto Museum, Luna
Mansion, the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, the National Hispanic
Cultural Center of New Mexico, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History
& Science, the Petroglyph National Monument, the Rio Grande Zoological
Park, Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, and the Sandia Peak
Aerial Tramway. There are numerous casinos and the Downs at Albuquerque
Racetrack.

Mountain Trail Scenic Byway, part of The El Camino Real Scenic Byway,
part of the Corrales Road Scenic Byway, a short bit of the Turquoise
Trail National Scenic Byway, the Abo Pass Trao;. and starting from Albuquerque across the
