Creative use fabric in your wedding.Thinking Outside of the Box with Fabrics
By Karen Anne Sherman, the owner of Twin Oaks House & Gardens, a beautiful wedding location in San Marcos, California.

Thinking outside of the box... This takes imagination on your part and help from your wedding planner. It’s easy to follow a cookie cutter method to making your wedding day actually happen, however, including your personal style to add flavor and to personalize your wedding will make your wedding day truly memorable and define you and your groom.

A few important things... Details, Details, Details, it’s the little things that really show that you have put time and creative energy into your wedding. Set out on a shopping quest for the perfect fabric that can tie in your guest tables with your buffet station and extra tables like sign in or escort tables. Choose carefully. Find a texture or design that feels good to you, and use this fabric over guest tables as overlays or pooled in the center of any table with centerpieces on top, maybe cut runner pieces long way for placement across the tables. It’s important to remember that you do not have to be a seamstress to accomplish this. It can be as simple as having the fabric store cut your pieces 20 inches over the exact size of your guest tables, and you are done. You do not have to sew seams onto ends if the piece is being used as an overlay and covering the entire top of the table, or if it is being pooled in the center.

Another great detail is to add vintage fabrics or even ladies shawls that have great designs or tassels hanging down from a small table like an escort or sweat heart table - search out antique shops for that special find.

How about making your own sashes for chairs, this can be done with cuts of fabric 15 inches by 60 inches, so that you can tie a nice bow. Nice quality Ribbon that’s 5 inches or more in your colors can also work out to be great.

Try using heirloom pieces that your families have passed down, on specific tables like a personal table that could have engagement photo of bride and groom, along with one or two black and white vintage photos of grandparents or parents.

Fabrics can also be wonderful in replace of tooling along the isle from chair to chair, in clusters with fresh flowers or trailing ribbon. Gazebos, arches or entree ways are also great applications for unique fabrics.

Runners can also be bolts of fabric uncut in a minimum of 36 inches wide by 25 feet long - this measurement will depend on your guest count for the length. Isle Chairs can be used on the sides to hold the runner in place for garden setting ceremonies. Think about choosing fabric that is a color, so that your dress will show off and not get lost on a white or cream color.
