Cookies
This recipe is by Dee Finney, as featured in ‘Farm House
Favorites’,
a recipe book published by the Antique Gas & Steam Engine
Museum in Vista, California
¾ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
¼ cup molasses
1/3 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
½ tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses to well
creamed sugar.
Mix flour, salt, soda and spices together. Add to batter.
Roll into balls about the size of large walnuts. Roll in
sugar. Do not flatten!
Place on un-greased cookie sheet, about 1 ½ inches apart.
Bake at 35o degrees for 12-15 minutes. Cookies will flatten
and crack.
