Runaway
Bride,
Runaway Groom
By Sally Manglicmot
Do you have "cold feet", or are you suffering from something
deeper at heart? "Cold feet" is an expression used to describe
nervous brides and grooms. The deeper question might be, "what
are you nervous about?"
Here are some questions
that, if answered "yes", may be reason to take a pause in your
wedding plans:
1. You might
be overwhelmed with the tasks of planning your wedding--so many
decisions to make! This is normal. Does the thought of making
“joint decisions” after you are married make you feel uneasy?
2. The two of you enjoy going to “happy hour” together, dining
out with friends, and going to a ball game. However, you always
take the role of “designated driver”. Do you secretly believe
that he/her may have a “dependency problem”?
3. It’s been two or more weeks since you said “I do”. Are you
experiencing occasions of doubt, periods of depression, or lack
of energy? Is it possible that your body is sending you signals?
4. You talk about everything under the sun (favorite movie,
dish, book sport), but shy away from topics like financial
investments, joint bank accounts, children, family social
events, careers and religion?
5. Do you suspect unfaithfulness?
6. Do you have regrets for saying “I do” too soon?
Answering yes to one or more of these questions doesn’t mean
it’s time to pull the plug. Simply note to take steps to remedy
the problem. If he or she really loves you, then there is
nothing wrong with extending the wedding date.
